Marlena Learns John is Alive!
Marlena hears the words she's been longing for but doesn't dare believe this week: John is alive!
"It's unbelievable!" declares Deidre Hall [Marlena]. "And unrealistic." Yet who doesn't want to hear that kind of news?" Marlena gets the news on Christmas morning after getting a call from the dry cleaner to pick up some of John's suits. When she shows up, she meets a woman named Crystal.
"Marlena is in front of a psychic shop, when Crystal appears out of nowhere," explains Hall. "She tells Marlena she looks lonely, which stops her. Crystal describes seeing a man in a forest and gives several details about him. It leads Marlena to understand it's John."
Marlena's interest in piqued - and then Crystal gives her the big news. "Crystal is a psychic, which is pretty unbelievable," says Hall. "She's talking about a thing that could not be possible, which makes it more unbelievable. Then, she disappears into thin air, so Marlena is apprehensive."
And intrigued. "Crystal has planted a seed that makes Marlena think there might be something more to think about here," warns Hall. It's good pal Hope who helps her hash things out. "Because Hope is a linear thinker, a police officer, if anybody is going to say, 'This is really nonsense,' it would be her," notes Hall. "Hope listens patiently, then says they should to check it out for themselves."
Marlena and Hope return to the psychic shop, "And it's all locked up," says Hall. "They learn it hasn't been used in about 6 months. It's outside the norm and a little supernatural. But this woman did have some information about John." Compounding the strange situation, Stefano's guest escapes from the mansion. The mystery man, who's wearing a hooded sweatshirt, ends up at Chez Rouge, where he almost runs into Marlena and Hope.
"Something catches Marlena's eye, it's a presence," explains Hall. "She looks over. There's the suspense of a - ships passing in the night moment." But far from letting it pass, Marlena can't put the experience "out of her head," says Hall. "She knows he's dead. He died in her arms. Yet it's a pretty compelling thought that he might not be lost forever."
It doesn't take a psychic to see that.
